From the Archives #1: Albany, Georgia, January 28, 1952
A dramatic Air Intelligence Report from a seasoned military pilot describes morphing UAP and includes radar corroboration.

The UAP Register aims to connect present-day reporting with historical cases (whenever feasible), as we believe that one of the most compelling reasons to take these phenomena seriously is their consistent presence throughout history. ‘From the Archives’ takes this a step further by delving into captivating UAP/UFO cases sourced from collections of U.S. government documents, including those mandated for release to the U.S. National Archives under the UAP Disclosure Act.
On the evening of January 28, 1952, a U.S. Air Force Major named Hal Lamb witnessed an extraordinary UAP sighting for approximately 17 minutes while on a T-33 ‘Shooting Star’ jet trainer traveling southeast of Albany, Georgia.
The report states that the encounter started when Lamb noticed a bright white object positioned at the 10 o'clock position. He described it as "circular in shape" and initially thought it could be either "another aircraft or an unusually bright star". This observation occurred while he was flying at an altitude of around 4,000 feet.
As Lamb continued to climb to 10,000 feet altitude over several minutes, the encounter became more bizarre.
The object started frequently changing “color from white to orange and back” fourteen minutes into the encounter. During the final moments of the incident, the object changed its form from “circular in shape to triangular and to a deep red in color.” That triangle then “split into two triangles, one immediately above the other.”
As the objects disappeared, Major Lamb described it as “turning [an] electric light off.”
The report, which was prepared by Captain Frank O’Bannon of the Wing Intelligence Group at Moody Air Force Base noted that Lamb’s “powers of observation seem to be excellent” and that he had “eleven years service all of this as a rated officer … [and is] now a senior pilot with over 3,100 hours and is currently assigned as OIC [Officer in Charge] of Base Operations [at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia].”
Lamb’s encounter was corroborated by a radar array located in Albany, GA. It tracked the mysterious object as it kept pace with Lamb’s trainer jet.
